The curtains Gyu-ho hangs for Young in Part III are a symbol of Gyu-ho's love for Young and the immediate intimacy that develops between them. This is a more healthy and loving relationship than Young has been in before, evidenced by Gyu-ho's desire to make Young's life better through these small domestic touches. The fact that Gyu-ho came all the way to his apartment just to complete this task is bewildering to Young, who is not used to being treated with such kindness. He wonders, "He came all this way to hang the curtains? From Incheon? What the hell? So touching" (163).
