During a New Year's party, Nick explains what the term "to freeze time" means to him (82). Bram and Simon are in accordance with his interpretation that freezing time means trying to choose the memories that one keeps. Wishing to control one's memories demonstrates the analytical nature of Bram and Simon's relationship. Bram tells Simon that he would choose a particularly sentimental memory to "freeze," but Simon explains that he would choose the current moment in time (82-84). Even though the two are separated, Simon would choose to keep every possible memory of Bram with him.
