Why was Du Leze unable to return to Paris in the novel, Loot?

Du Leze was taken from his homeland involuntarily and longs to return, but roughly six months after his arrival in Mysore, “Paris fell” (29). Because of the political and social unrest in his home city, therefore, Du Leze has been unable to return.
