What does Jehanne's ring represent in the novel, Loot?

The ring that Jehanne has from Tipu Sultan is symbolic of the past. The ring is an emblem of Tipu Sultan's kingdom and the power and strength he once had. In the wake of the Srirangapatna siege, the ring is representative of the world the characters inhabited and lives the characters led prior to the English invasion.
