What does Will say he usually does when bad things happen? Why can he not do this on the day that Shawn dies? Why does he think the moon is “lucky”?

In the beginning of Chapter Two, Will says it is a “strange thing” that when people get on the elevator, they look to see if their button is pressed, and if not, press it, and then they face the door without speaking to the people already on the elevator. He calls this Elevator Rules.
