When Meg and Jo plan to go to a play with Laurie, Jo won't let Amy come along. Amy becomes angry and burns Jo's manuscript because she wants revenge. When Jo discovers what Amy has done, she vows not to speak to her again. When Laurie warns Jo not to walk on thin ice later in the chapter, Jo refuses to talk to Amy and warn her. So, Amy falls through the ice. The girls both learn that quick anger and revenge can often lead to even bigger problems later on and they forgive each other.
