How does the author use foreshadowing in Like Jake and Me?

Like Jake and Me is a picture book for young children by author Mavis Jukes. This book is about a young boy whose mother has remarried and is expecting twins. Alex is a small boy who feels as though he has little in common with his stepfather, Jake. This of course foreshadows a closer connection later in the story.
