The novel is written in third-person in a series of limited perspectives, usually of Liam and Cork. The limited perspective allows the author to keep details secret in order to keep the reader guessing about what really happened to Big John and Louise. This limited perspective is typical of the genre. The limited perspective affected by the fact that Cork sometimes listens in on conversations when he is not officially part of the scene. In a few cases, Liam is involved in the conversations but Cork sometimes has a different perspective than Liam, which sometimes leads the reader to new conclusions.
