What is The Planing Mill?

The planing mill in Jefferson is where Byron Bunch, Joe Christmas, and Joe Brown first cross paths. Lena and Byron meet at the mill as well. By the end of the story, all three men quit their jobs at the mill, though their mutual association continues until the end of the novel.
