How does Miranda's mother, Laura, respond to the disaster?

Laura is quick-thinking, calm and sensible during a crisis. She realizes before many other people do that the asteroid hitting the moon could have long term affects on the world and day-to-day life. She worries that shops may close and food may be scarce, so she pulls the children out of school to help her stock up on supplies. Miranda thinks that she has gone a little crazy, but Laura insists that it is better to be safe than sorry.
