Significance of A Tooth

This deciduous, or baby, tooth found at the sanctuary is the symbol needed to spark Jenna’s memory about what actually happened the night that Nevvie was killed and her mother disappeared. Nevvie had taken her from her parents’ house to the spot under the tree where she hit the toddler over the head, a retaliatory killing because she lost her own daughter, Grace, to suicide when Grace learned Alice and Gideon were having an affair.
