How do Stevie and Susan Carol gain access to Chip Graber's room in Chapter 9?

They are stopped by a security guard, but Stevie says he's Chip's cousin. When the guard takes them to Chip, Stevie and Susan Carol give Chip hints in front of the guard to let them know they overheard his conversation yesterday with Whiting, so Chip confirms that Stevie is his cousin.
