How are Stevie and Susan Carol rescued in Chapter 17?

At eight o'clock, they're watching the game on TV when someone knocks on the door. When Gary, Feeley's assistant opens it, a man pushes Gary down, beats him up, and takes away his gun. The man identifies himself as Steve Jurgenson as he cuts off the tape from the kids' hands and ankles.
