How did Lame Deer end up with a bum shoulder?

Lame Deer ended up with a bum shoulder because he was riding bareback in Martin, South Dakota and he fell and pulled his right shoulder out of joint. There were no doctors in attendance and so they put a pillow under his arm and yanked away.
