What is the setting in the novella, La Invención de Morel?

The story begins on the island of Villings. The protagonist is a fugitive from justice and is seeking a place to hide. He is told about the island by a rug merchant he meets in Calcutta. It is a desolate, abandoned island the location of which is not revealed.
