Why don't Margalida and Josefa get along in the novel, Knowledge of Angels?

Margalida orders Josefa to do specific chores around the house and in the yard while she takes a nap. Josefa resents the way she is treated and refuses. In turn, Margalida tells Taddeo, her husband and Josefa's father, that Josefa has is insolent and disobeys her.
