What lifts Mikage's spirit when she is crying? Why?

When Mikage begins crying on the bus, she gets off and hides in an alley. From that alley Mikage is able to overhear a busy kitchen. This lifts Mikage's spirits enough for her to return home and stop crying. Mikage has always felt comfortable around kitchens and finds peace in them.
