Penny demonstrates the power of fabricated stories as she describes the way characters lose their reliability after repeatedly lying or behaving immorally. Benedict is the character whose lies put him in the most precarious position since he is the prime suspect in a murder. Amelia tells the truth when she says she has not been using drugs or selling drugs while in the academy. However, based on her reputation, few people believe that she is telling the truth. Similarly, Tony has built for himself a reputation of lying beginning with the fact that he did not tell his wife he was homosexual. For that reason, Hugo tries to use his brother’s bad reputation to cover his own misdeeds.
