What does Max do when Marlowe defends the King in Chapter 26?

After Marlowe defends the King to the Americans in the hut, Max starts screaming and attacks Marlowe with a knife. After the others restrain him, Marlowe says that he’s had a fit and needs a doctor. He then leaves to look for the King.
