King Rat
Describe the first meeting between The King and Marlowe in the novel, King Rat.
.
.
The King is thinking about a crucial diamond deal when he sees a young man talking Malay with a native. He summons him inside the hut, where he takes up far more than his allotted space. The stranger is Peter Marlowe, who knows the King only by reputation. The King invites Marlow to share fried eggs, his specialty. When Marlowe declares them "not bad," the King flares, but a confrontation is avoided when Grey arrives to investigate. When Grey forces Marlowe to put on his armband, the King is surprised to see that he has been dealing with an officer.
