Although the men find joy in the good news, their joy is marred by the fear of reprisals from the Japanese should the Allies invade Japan. There is a growing belief in the camp that no prisoner will be allowed to leave Changi alive, and some POWs begin to believe that every Allied victory brings the day of their own deaths closer.
