The novel consists of 29 unnamed chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are all approximately the same length. Each chapter is narrated by Mare, Cameron, or Evangeline and the narrator is indicated by a chapter heading. The chapters take place chronologically, and the different narrators give insight into different locations in the same timeline. Some of the chapters, particularly Mare’s, jump forward in time, but the novel is largely comprehensive of the time it covers.
