Why does Dana say, “Well, Daddy hadn’t changed," on page 60?

In context, Dana is commenting on her father's anger... his abusiveness. Her comment follows Rufus' comment that Nigel might get into trouble for leaving him, particulatly if anyone has "made Daddy mad lately."
