While technology can benefit the people it serves, there is also a darker side to tech in which it can be used to hurt and even destroy people. One of the most obvious cases is the faked videos in which it appears Gwen helped her ex-husband with his murders. Technology is also used by Absalom and his hackers to torment people whom they believe deserve to be hurt. Also, technology cannot only be used to protect an innocent person from harm, it can also keep a criminal from being located.

The use of technology that is most destructive takes place when Absalom begins circulating faked videos of Gwen appearing to help Melvin with his crimes. The people who see the videos believe what they are seeing and demand that Gwen give proof she is innocent instead of looking for proof the videos are real. Not only does Sam, Gwen’s best ally, turn against her, her children do as well. Even police officers who see the videos believe they are real and threaten to arrest Gwen.
