A two-and-a-half-ton GMC army truck collided with the general's touring car when it suddenly veered from its lane into the lane where Patton was riding. Patton was mostly paralyzed from the neck down. Bones in his spine were dislocated. His number three cervical vertebra was shattered badly bruising his spinal cord. He had some movement in his extremities. He had a low pulse and a high fever. There was a blood clot in his lungs.
