Compass Tattoos

The compass tattoos Vic's parents have signify their close connection. Vic first noticed the tattoos when he was a little boy and his dad explained their meaning to him. Both his parents showed him their compasses and explained how his dad's compass pointed east and his mom's west, so that they would never lose each other. When Vic visits the tattoo shop and sees his parents initials' on the sign, he is able to revisit this happy time and understand his parents a little bit better. He sees how close they were and just how much they mattered to one another. Vic also refers to Mad as his "compass." She is an anchor for him in the chaos of life and someone who he feels he is being pulled to. Like his parents, Vic has found someone he feels very close to and who gets him.
