symbolism of The Lucite Cube.

The Lucite cube is a symbol of the unnatural. It appears in the story “The Things They Left Behind.” It is among the things that show up in Scott’s apartment about a year after the 9/11 terrorist attack. It is determined there is something truly unnatural about this cube when Paula asks Scott to give it to her. Paula returns it and tells Scott that she learned from the cube the name of the man who owned it. She had also heard his final dying thoughts as he crouched under his desk with his hair on fire.
