The eighth stone is a symbol of completion and protection. When N. visits Ackerman’s Field, his trip is focused on ensuring that the eighth stone is visible with the naked eye in the ring. If it is not visible with the naked eye, he has to complete various counting and placing rituals to make the eighth stone visible. N. believes the world is safe from a monster being protected by the stones only if all eight stones are present.
