St. Christopher’s Medal symbol of.....?

The St. Christopher’s medal is a symbol of superstition and protection. It is an object mentioned in the story “Mute.” St. Christopher is the patron saint of travelers and is believed to protect people on long journeys. Monette keeps this medal in his car because he believes it has enabled him to travel with his job without having even a single minor car crash. Later, when Monette shows the St. Christopher’s medal to the priest, the priest notes that it appears Monette has abandoned all devotion to his religion with the exception of his superstitious beliefs.
