Billy McMann, a draft dodger, positions the debate over the Vietnam War, specifically, the question of whether to fight or run, in the center of the novel’s exploration of the psyche of the Class of 1969. 18 days after graduating from Darton Hall, Billy is served his draft notice, and he is on a flight to Winnipeg.
