What caused the Acoma Massacre?

When Onate's military demanded supplies from the Acoma Pueblo people, they rebelled. As a result, eleven of Onate's men were killed, on being his nephew. In response, Onate attacked the people killing 800 people, and enslaving the 500 who remained.
