The crew of a Portuguese ship became so fearful of falling off the end of the earth that they mutinied at Table Bay. The crew threatened to cut the throat of the captain if he attempted to go on. Slocum believes that Table Bay would have been the captain's stopping point anyway because Table Bay was supposedly the place where the world ended.
