What makes Bertie uncomfortable at dinner in Chapter 11?

In spite of the delicious meal, Bertie is uncomfortable throughout dinner in Chapter 11 because he is seated across from Stilton, who Bertie knows wants to break his spine. Stilton does not speak throughout the meal, but shoots Bertie dirty looks.
