What is Stilton's reason for calling off his engagement in Chapter 10?

Bertie asks Florence what the reason for Stilton's canceling of their engagement is and Florence reveals that Stilton had made some inquiries at the nightclub and found out that she and Bertie had indeed been there together. Florence also tells Bertie that Stilton plans to break his spine in five places.
