What does Percy admit to doing with his mother's necklace in Chapter 21?

In Chapter 21, Percy admits that when his mother asked him to take her necklace to the jeweler's for cleaning, he actually had a copy of the necklace made and pawned the original. He did this because he was desperate for one thousand pounds to invest in his theater production.
