Miss Mott, the cook at Mr. Buckle's home, is cooking dinner for seven gentlemen. Miss Mott contemplates her new employer, Mr. Buckle, with his "oddly private disposition" and his lack of social graces. Mr. Buckle inherited this house and wealth and shows little social graces.
