How does Jack describe the punishment he and Sophina received from Ma Britten in Chapter 65?

After Ma Britten found out about Sophina's pregnancy, she thrashed Jack and forced an abortion on Sophina. When Tom and Jack leave the house the next day, Tom points out the dead fetus in the trash and Jack laments the loss of his unborn child.
