Ishi says that he has learned a lot about the saldu in his time among them. He says that there are too many of them and that they are loud. He also comments that their gods and heroes are much cleverer than those of the Yahi are and that the saldu have been given great tools. However, he also says that, while the gods have given the saldu many great things, they have not given them wisdom or a path to follow. This is why Ishi worries for Maliwal and why he chooses to continue to look after him. He does not want Maliwal to be pulled astray by the saldu world.
