After his death, Ishi's friends show their respect for him by giving him a traditional Yahi burial. He is buried with the traditional items that he will need for his five-day journey into the Land of the Dead, all the things that a Yahi hunter would need to take from the World of the Living. He is buried with his best bow and five arrows, a small basket of acorn meal, and his treasure bundle. After his burial, Majapa and Maliwal go to Outer Ocean every day to pray for Ishi's spirit and scatter acorn meal over the waves.
