Layla says that the crowd is made up of Muslim women and men of every color and style of dress, fifty in all, who bang pots and pans and make noise as they approach the gates of camp Mobius. She says that Suraya, Nadia and Nadeem are in the crowd, and girls in hijab or with hair free, as well as grandmothers, parents, young and old. Layla says that “from many, we are one” (354).
