The Dance Competition symbolizes the success of Evie and X’s relationship. Evie is hesitant to become involved in a relationship with X, at first because she is suspect of love, but later because she learns that X will die. Evie is able to overcome her issues and be committed to her relationship with X in the same way that Evie gets past her reluctance to dance to eventually win the competition with X.
