What do Ha’s actions on page 139 imply about her attitude toward school?

Ha's brother teaches her to defend herself in school, as she is bullied relentlessly by the other students. From this, we can infer that Ha wants to be in school, and yet, she isn't quite sure how to respond or protect herself any other way.
