What does Amargo represent to Nora in the novel, Inland?

Amargo serves as a symbol of Nora's emotional and psychic space. Overwhelmed by heat and drought, frequently silent or flooded with dangerous darkness, Amargo represents the vulnerabilities and terrors of Nora's interior. Because Nora's does not have first person narrative agency over her portions of the novel, the reader must often rely on the narrator's descriptions of Amargo to understand Nora's psychological complexities.
