Why do Saul's mother and grandmother argue in Chapter Seven?

Saul’s mother used to be a student at Christian missionary school. Saul’s grandmother disapproves of his mother’s use of English and belief in the religious ideas that were taught at the school, so the two argue over their conflicting beliefs.
