This is only a short answer space. I don't think that Saul ever really heals from his trauma: he merely learns to live with it and put it in context. I can't think of any trauma he heals from. The trauma simply become a part of his life that he deals better with by stopping drinking and returning to Manitouwadge where he can be surrounded with people who care about him.
