who is Yekel?

Yekel is a character in "... Vengeance," the father of Refkele. He is portrayed as conservative, judgmental, and hypocritical. His behavior is the focus of playwright Asch's exploration of religious hypocrisy. Yekel is the part played by Rudolph Shildkraut in the European and New York productions of "...Vengeance."
