Who is Jared from the novel, Incarceron?

Jared is Claudia's tutor. He is also referred to as Master Sapient. He is much older than Claudia and has a heart condition for which he takes medication. Jared is accused at one point in the story of having an affair with Claudia by Casper, Claudia's betrothed. Jared is the one that Incarceron is entrusted to after the Warden escapes there.
