What happened to Jacky's fiance in the novel, In the Belly of the Bloodhound?

Lieutenant James, Jacky's fiance, sees her for the last time after the Battle of Trafalgar. When he reaches Boston, he learns that she is missing and keeps writing her letters that he will never send. In his letters he tells her what is going on in Boston and how much he misses her.
