Why has Ellie not told her parents about Miah yet?

Ellie admits to Miah that she is nervous her family will not accept him. Part of her would rather not know that her parents are prejudice. She also is enjoying having Miah all to herself, as her parents will be concerned that she is spending so much time with him.
