Why had Miah not told Ellie about his famous parents earlier in their relationship?

Miah nervously tells Ellie that his father is a filmmaker and his mother is a published author. When Ellie is upset he had not told her earlier, Miah says that he does not want to be judged by the fact his parents are famous but wants to be known simply as Miah.
